What a fantastic 2 weeks of swimming firstly at the British Summer Nationals and now this week at the English Summer Nationals.
Jodie Gittins, Rachel Hornby and Daisy Poole all took part in the British Championships last week with Jodie finishing 13th in the Girls 16 years 200m Freestyle and all 3 girls competing in the relays for Wigan BEST.
This week Madeleine Bailey, Jodie Gittins and Rachel Hornby have been competing in the English Summer Nationals. Madeleine finished 15th in the Girls 13 years 200m Breaststroke; Jodie finished 8th in the 16 years 100m Butterfly but the success story of the competition so far is RACHEL HORNBY.
On Wednesday 1st August Rachel was competing in the 200m Breaststroke. She swam in the 2nd heat of the event and achieved a 7 seconds personal best time. She had to wait until the last heat of the morning to find out that she was the 2nd fastest swimmer for the final.
In the final there were 3 girls all “fighting” for the Gold Medal place. Rachel went out fast completing the first 50m in 36.67; the 100m in 1.16.74 and the 150m in 1.58.11.
After the 150m all 3 girls were still fighting for that Gold Medal place. What an achievement for Rachel’s first every National Competition to finish with the Silver Medal in a time of 2.40.19.
Rachel competes again on Friday 4th August in the 200m Butterfly – so we wait for that event with “baited breath”.
