Tyldesley Girls Under 17 years water polo team competed in the Swim England Water Polo National Age Group competition at Manchester Aquatic Centre this weekend.
Teams entered this competition from all over the country and Tyldesley had qualified for the Semi Finals in the previous games held in Northampton early in March.
On Saturday they faced a strong team “Otter”, which selected girls from the Greater London area and beyond, infact stretching as far as Ipswich to the East and Southampton to the South. At the end of the 3rd quarter the score was 6 – 6 but in the final quarter Otter managed to score 4 more goals and so the game finished 6 – 10 and Tyldesley progressed to the Bronze Medal match.
Early on Sunday morning the girls faced the team from Cheltenham. The first quarter saw Tyldesley winning 3 – 0 and the team never lost the lead eventually winning the match 9 – 4 and the Bronze Medal.
Who would have thought that this little town in Lancashire could produce home grown talent to take on the whole of the country.
